Ubisoft unveiled the initial preview for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Wednesday, disclosing for the first time that the game will feature two protagonists: Yasuke, the historical black samurai, and Naoe, a Japanese shinobi.

The expansive RPG, set in 16th-century Japan, also received a launch date. The cinematic preview confirmed that the game is scheduled for release on November 15, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and Mac.

Additionally, Ubisoft shared an informative companion video, including insights from game director Charles Benoit and associate narrative director Brook Davies, providing further details about the two characters and their interplay. Players will not only be able to embody both characters but also explore their distinctive gameplay styles. Yasuke focuses on direct combat and raw power, while Naoe emphasizes stealth and finesse.

Featuring Yasuke represents a first for Ubisoft in incorporating a real-life historical figure as one of the main protagonists in an Assassin’s Creed title. True to the series’ tradition, Shadows will showcase other renowned figures from history, with one standout individual in the trailer being Fujibayashi Nagato, a prominent shinobi from the Iga Province portrayed as Naoe’s father in the game.

Throughout this week, Ubisoft has been drumming up excitement for its forthcoming core Assassin’s Creed installment. The studio initially announced the name change from Assassin’s Creed Codename Red to Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Monday through a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Although this initial trailer did not delve deeply into gameplay specifics, enthusiasts can anticipate more details next month. Ubisoft Forward for this year is scheduled for June 10, following the usual lineup of summer presentations that commences with Summer Game Fest. Alongside additional Assassin’s Creed revelations, Ubisoft is likely to unveil more about the upcoming open-world Star Wars Outlaws.
