Transitioning from an Android to an iOS environment can feel like a significant choice, not to be made lightly. The Apple ecosystem is almost like a clique — once you’re in, it’s challenging to leave.

However, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. If you’re interested in AirPods but not ready to commit fully to iOS, you can still experience Apple’s earphones and headphones by connecting them to your Android device. Despite Apple’s mostly closed system, AirPods are compatible with Android, allowing even non-iOS users a glimpse of Apple’s offerings.

Below are the steps to use Apple AirPods with an Android device.

What You Need

  • AirPods
  • Android device

Step 1:Activate Bluetooth on your Android device.

You can achieve this by accessing “Settings” and selecting “Connections,” where you can enable Bluetooth.

Step 2:Initiate pairing mode on your AirPods.

For AirPods or AirPods Pro, open the charging case with the earbuds inside. Then press and hold the circular setup button on the back of the case. If you have AirPods Max, press and hold the oval noise control button located on the top of the right ear cup.

Step 3:Wait for the status light to flash.

Continue holding the button until the white status light on your AirPods begins to flash, which usually takes about five seconds.

Step 4:Select your AirPods on your Android device to establish the connection.

Your AirPods should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on your Android device. Simply select them to connect.

Using AirPods without an iOS device means you won’t have access to Apple’s virtual assistant Siri. Nevertheless, if your goal is to enjoy your Spotify playlist or browse TikTok quietly without disturbing others, Apple AirPods will function seamlessly with your Android device.
